Steel Counterplates

The Steel Counterplate is another member of the Atlas Die family of tools for the folding carton industry. The Steel Counterplate is the ideal choice when high quality, exceptionally long lasting scores are required. Set-up times are decreased by using a one piece plate instead of individual counters or creasing matrix.

DESCRIPTION:
A Steel Counterplate is a stainless steel plate with score channels chemically etched or machined directly into the surface of the cutting plate. The channels are aligned with the scoring rules in the die and are used to make a bead in the carton for folding. The sophisticated programming for the design of the channels for the Steel Counterplate is based upon the same CAD/CAM program used for the manufacturing Atlas Die's premium quality Steel Rule Die that is used in conjunction with the Steel Counterplate.

FEATURES:

  • A hardened stainless steel plate sized to cover the entire cutting area of the corresponding die.
  • Channel widths and depths are determined by the type and caliper of the board as well as the needs of the converter.
  • Atlas Die's pre-registration system allows quick and efficient set up on press.
  • Eliminates hand cutting of scores and skiving.
  • Precise scoring ability.
  • Long life - up to 30 million impressions reported.

The benefits of a chemically milled or machined Steel Counterplate are the extended use life, precise scoring ability, quick and efficient pre-registration system for ease of make-ready, program accuracy and elimination of hand cutting scores and skiving. The Steel Counterplate wear is quite minimal and score dimensions remain constant throughout the run. Downtime to recut counters during a run is eliminated.
Atlas Die tools are quality built and designed to last through repeated uses over long periods of time. Atlas Die's engineering staff will be happy to advise you on Steel Counterplate possibilities for your project. Atlas Die is committed to quality and leadership with ISO 9001 compliant quality systems.

Reverse Cut Scores

Reverse Cut Scores are another member of the Atlas Die family of tools for the folding carton industry. A Reverse Cut Score is a hard, chemically etched, steel plate with a cutting edge used to cut the inside surface of a carton or blank. Reverse Cut Scores may be inserts to a Rillma or Steel Counterplate or may be used alone on the cut-plate with conventional make-ready. The Reverse Cut Score cuts against a flat anvil placed in the die.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Reverse Cut Scores are available in various thicknesses, as determined by the type of mounting plate, the percentage of cut-through needed in the stock material and the height of the opposing anvil. Chemically milled from spring steel, the Reverse Cut Score uses artwork generated by the same program used to create the die, thereby assuring accurate registration with the die.
  • Reverse Cut Scores are often used when cutting is desired on a carton or blank to produce an offset partial cut, "tear open feature" on both sides of the printed piece simultaneously.
  • Reverse Cut Scores are the ideal choice for cartons that must remain completely sealed prior to customer use.

FEATURES:

Reverse Cut Scores can be pre-registered to the die by transfer pins or, when used with Rillma or Steel Counterplates, set in a positioning cavity in the counter for quick, easy and exact die alignment.

Reverse Cut Scores can accomplish one pass, two sided cutting, inside cut to outside print register, and be made in one piece, in any shape necessary, thereby avoiding mitered joints which can result in nicked cutting where angles or turns occur.

Reverse Cut Scores, used when a panel of flap must fold against a carton, can also be made in a one piece, in any design necessary, avoiding mitered joints and the possibility of nicked cutting where there are angles or turns.

Atlas Die tools are quality built and designed to last through repeated uses over long periods of time. Atlas Die's engineering staff will be happy to advise you of the various applications for reverse cut scores and reverse crease scores for your projects. Atlas Die is committed to quality and leadership with ISO 9001 compliant quality systems.
